November 17th 2008, 12:25pm -

Last May (2008) Nargis, the most deadly category 4 cyclone to every cross Myanmar's shores, took over 140,000 lives and left in excess of 1,000,000 people homeless (this photo shows the path of the cyclone). Support from outside Myanmar has been strong and I'm happy to report that the Presbyterian Church of Australia answered the call to help with donations totaling more than AUD$50,000. As relief efforts continue, please pray for the people and government of Myanmar and that the Lord would be gracious toward them and cause many to call on the name of Jesus for salvation.

Thanks to more fund-raising by the Presbyterian Church of Australia, the ERC has been able to build a solid and permanent structure at the RBI site for male student accommodation as well as meeting room/classroom facilities. They've sent us a few photos, click here to have a look.

Once every 50 years the bamboo in Chin State flowers bringing on a plague of rats followed by a resulting famine. Families, friends and communities associated with ERC and FRCM are being affected so please pray for them as they endure this very difficult time. I found a good article from a BBC reporter, you can find a copy of it here.

'Desiring God' Goodies

I'm a subscriber to John Piper's Desiring God blog but, as with most blogs, not everything they post is "worth a second read".

What I've got here is a collection of the DG blogs I think are worth that second look.

If you'd like to receive my selected DG blog posts via an RSS feed
